How much is a Social Media Job worth?

Lets face it, for a lot of us – we use social media on a regular basis.  Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace, Blogs and a number of others is part of a HR/Recruiting Industry pro’s life.  We use social networks to not only recruit – but to retain, onboard and market to the world around us – but have you ever wondered just how much that part of your job is “worth?”

Larger companies like Best Buy have gained a lot of publicity by adding in social media positions over the last year.  For a lot of vendors in the space – social media is just another part of someone’s job.  So how much is this “part” of your job actually worth?

According to one company – it is $9/hour.

Need computer literate person who is who is familiar with social networking to create profiles on twitter, facebook, myspace, linkin, squidoo, hi-5, twirl, flickr, propeller, etc (at least 15 profiles).  Must create templates, short bios, add (at least 1000+ friends) per profile. Target towards key words, geographical and age.  This is about a week long assignment (8 hr day or more) and 1-2 hour everyday thereafter for follow up’s.   $9.00 per hour.

Karla Porter and I had a brief discussion on Twitter this morning after she found this advertisement posted.    Is it really possible to develop at least 1000+ friends per profile in a week while targeting specific key words, geographic locale and age?  If that is possible – is it really only worth $9/hour?

Where are all the compensations specialists on Labor Day to take this one on? Seriously though, I’m curious to see what the new media comp. plans look like. I haven’t seen anything official have you? I’m going to do a little Sherlock Holmes and post results over at my place. I’ll send you an invitation to come over when I finish baking the cake :-)

Most of what I have found has been across the board from $30-50K/year to $150k+ depending on other responsibilities with the job…

Wow, I would have to say that, if they want someone who can actually accomplish all that in a week, they’re gonna need someone who is worth a whole heck of a lot more than just $9/hour :-p
